Mary Philips 1880 -1969

Mary organised for the GWSAWS (Glasgow and West of Scotland assn for Women's Suffrage) then threw her lot in with the Pankhursts. She became a WSPU organiser helping with Scottish Campaigns. She also wrote a column on suffrage for Glasgow socialist paper Forward.

She went to London and served her first imprisonment for her part in the raid on Parliament with Annot Wilkie. Found this inspiring – so repeated similar acts in June 1908 and July 1909.

In 1913 Christabel Pankhurst dismissed her supposedly for financial reasons. This was a period of schism in the movement so immediately Mary worked for Sylvia Pankhurst under a pseudonym. She continued serving the suffragette cause until 1928 when she gave itup to edit a news service for the brewing trade.
